Social Enterprises in Haiti
People sometimes ask me if have ideas about ways to help Haiti. For ideas, see this blog post written by my chosen family member Kerry Rodgers. Her website also has images of some of the collaborative artwork we created together after the 2010 earthquake.
Peterson
It is important for me to leverage the opportunities I've been given to amplify and share the story of those who are struggling.
I'd like to share about my friend Peterson. I met Peterson when I was 21 years old. We were roommates for a few years and we spent every day together. He is kind, hard-working, has high integrity, and generous. When I had nothing he shared what he had with me, and now I'm trying to share what I can with him.
Until recently, Peterson was living in Martissant, a neighborhood in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. I grew up in Martissant, and it is a place that I know and love. It was a tough neighborhood then...but in recent months it has become un-livable and thousands of Haitians have fled their homes due to an eruption of gang violence. Peterson and his girlfriend were forced to flee their apartment.
I am trying to help Peterson find a new home and enroll his daughter in school.
See photos of Peterson below...including a photo with my mom and photos of his daughter preparing for her first day of school.
